Seeing the Light

Has David Brooks finally seen the light? Or has he merely opened the curtains a smudge? Now the light I speak of is not *THOCATCOH. I think he started to spray a bit of that on himself last November, but I think the bottle is now used up. I can't believe he's really abandoned his Centrist Eden, but I do believe he knows no matter how he talks it up Obama is not a centrist outside of teleprompter speeches. He's a Chicago-style socialist with a smile. That or he's a man who believes in the hope of fairytales. [See North Korea/Afghanistan/Pakistan/Iran/Israel for deeping Foreign Policy ogres.]

Brooks realizes that if all these programs go through and they areonly half as disastrous as they appear to be, he will never see the centrist changes he longs for be a reality.

At least now he can hammer away like Krauthammer. Too bad they don't reach more of the silent (or deaf) majority.

Welcome Back (Hopefully to stay)

I've enjoyed David Brooks for sometime. His book Bobos in Paradise is a minor classic, but the last few years he has become the most staunch and mythical centrist on the planet. I've had a number of conversations about him with colleagues and he has almost become a joke on how middle of the road-utopian he has tried to be. I don't know if occurred when he was hired by the New York Times to be their token "conservative" or it's simply his good guy genes. Occasionally he has a good article but he's been so centrist it's sucked the life out of his writing. He had been the post-boy for post-partisanship. I don't know how such a smart guy can belief in such magical nonsense. Obama and Rove-clone Gibbs are already using bi-partisanship as a weapon against the Right. [Isn't Gibbs just odious? He makes me physically sick.]

Well, maybe Brooks is having the avalon-snakeskin removed from his eyes. He really nails this whole GM-Obama-Big Government mess on the head in his article today.

I encourage everyone to read it. It goes nicely with the Detroit News' latest editorial.

Wasted Opportunity

This is why people (regardless of party) don't trust politicians. They take a task and screw it up and waste taxpayer money and in the process rarely solve the problem. David "King of the Centrists" Brooks has a really good article about why this "Stimulus" package is stupid and not even what smart Dems wanted to do in the first place. Though I believe it would be the wrong move I'd rather see a real Keynesian "prime the pump" package just so we could know for once and fore all if this theory has any legs. But no, its a huge hodge-podge of ick. Some change.
